PITTSBURGH, July 21 (UPI) -- Jason Kendall extended his hitting streak to 23 games and Matt Stairs homered Monday to power Pittsburgh to a 5-3 victory over Houston.

After Houston scored on Brad Ausmus' RBI single in the second, Kendall got the run back with a single in the bottom of the inning. Stairs homered in the third off Astros starter Tim Redding (6-9).

Redding lasted just 2 1/3 innings and allowed five runs and seven hits.

Houston got back in the game in the sixth against starter Josh Fogg (6-4) on back-to-back homers by Jeff Bagwell and Jeff Kent.

Fogg allowed three runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings.
