Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

NEW YORK, July 21 (UPI) -- Baltimore Orioles outfielder Luis Matos on Monday was named American League Player of the Week.
Matos led the league with a .600 batting average, going 9-for-15 in four games. He tied for the league lead with six runs scored and an .867 slugging percentage, recording a double, a home run and 13 total bases.
The 24-year-old Matos helped Baltimore record a four-game sweep of the world champion Anaheim Angels. He had a home run and a two-run single in Saturday's 8-4 victory, before going 4-for-5 in Sunday's 7-6 triumph.
Matos is batting .364 with seven home runs, 23 RBI, 11 stolen bases, and 43 runs in 47 games this season.
