TALLAHASSEE, Fla., July 21 (UPI) -- Florida A&M's bid to play Division I-A football won approval Monday from the NCAA reclassification committee, effective with the 2004 season.

The Rattlers moved to Division I-AA in 1978 and have been a perennial top-25 team since 1995. Last year, they were 7-5, including a 5-3 record in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Florida A&M has played several Division I-A football teams since 1979, including six meetings with Miami and games against Temple and Troy State. On Sept. 13, the Rattlers play Florida at Gainesville. They have road games against Illinois and Oklahoma during the 2004 season.
