Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

MIAMI, July 21 (UPI) -- Mike Lowell had two hits and two RBI Monday to lead the Florida Marlins to a 4-1 victory over the Montreal Expos.
Out since the All-Star break, Lowell drove in Luis Castillo with a single to center in the first inning, then drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth to make it 2-0.
Lowell, who missed three games, underwent a series of tests Friday and Saturday that ruled out a recurrence of cancer as the cause of a nagging groin injury.
Marlins starter Josh Beckett (4-4) allowed seven hits in seven scoreless innings for his second win in three starts.
Activated from the 15-day disabled list before the game, Vladimir Guerrero had two hits for Montreal. The superstar slugger missed 39 games with a herniated disk in his back.
