ATLANTA, July 21 (UPI) -- Ace righthander Mark Prior of the Chicago Cubs Monday was placed on the disabled list with a sore right shoulder.
Prior, who suffered the injury in a collision with Atlanta second baseman Marcus Giles, is eligible to return Sunday, but has flown back to Chicago for further examination.
The injury, which occurred as Prior, 22, was running the bases, kept him out of the All-Star Game on July 15. The 6-5, 230-pounder is 8-5 with a 3.01 ERA in 19 starts this season. He has allowed just 116 hits and struck out 150 in 128 2/3 innings.
To fill his roster spot, the Cubs recalled righthander Sergio Mitre from Double-A West Tennessee of the Southern League. Mitre, who was 6-7 with a 3.79 ERA, is expected to start in place of Prior Tuesday against the Braves.
To make room for Mitre on the 40-man roster, Chicago transferred outfielder Corey Patterson to the 60-day disabled list.
