Eaton was quickly ejected from his last start on July 13 after hitting St. Louis slugger Albert Pujols just three batters into the game. He bounced back against the Diamondbacks with one of his best outings of the season.

Eaton (5-7) allowed just six hits, including a pair of doubles, and struck out seven while issuing only one walk in 6 2/3 innings.

Closer Rod Beck pitched a scoreless ninth for his ninth save as the Padres snapped a five-game losing streak.

Webb (7-3) failed to win his sixth consecutive start despite allowing just two runs and four hits in six innings. He had eight strikeouts.

The Diamondbacks squandered numerous opportunities as they had runners on base in every inning, including the leadoff batter in six frames.
