Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
SANDWICH, England, July 18 (UPI) -- Players at the British Open found the pin placements so difficult during the second round that they could hardly believe them.
"I've never seen pins so hard," said leader Davis Love, who was the only player in the field to break par for 36 holes over the Royal St. George's course.
"They were tough and they were right on the verge of being a bit ridiculous," said Greg Norman, whose 79 dropped him from second to 35th at 6-over 148.
"I don't know if anyone else talked about the first hole being on a knob, but that was an awfully tough one to start out there, right on the knob," added Tiger Woods.
The pins were tucked on top of hills and on the side of ridges.
"Even par is a cinch to win this golf tournament," Norman said, "given the way the conditions are."
