Dixon wins third straight pole

LEBANON, Tenn., July 18 (UPI) -- Scott Dixon became the first IRL driver in nearly five years to win three straight poles Friday, turning the fastest lap at the Firestone Indy 200.

Driving a G Force/Toyota, Dixon set a record for the 1 1/3-mile concrete oval at Nashville Superspeedway. He clocked a speed of 206.211 miles per hour.

Dixon also won the pole at Richmond International Raceway on June 26 and Kansas Speedway on July 5. It is the fourth pole of the season for the driver from New Zealand.

The pole gave Dixon three points and moved him within 31 of leader Tony Kanaan in the standings.

Penske Racing's Helio Castroneves was second with a lap at 205.339 mph in a Dallara/Toyota. Tora Takagi of Japan was third at 205.051 mph in a G Force/Toyota.
