Report: Nesterovic to go to Spurs

SAN ANTONIO, July 15 (UPI) -- It appears the San Antonio Spurs have found their replacement for retired center David Robinson -- Rasho Nesterovic.

The San Antonio Express-News reports Nesterovic, who spent his first five seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves, has agreed to a six-year contract worth about $42 million.

NBA teams can begin to announce free agent signings Wednesday.

A 7-foot, 248-pounder from Slovenia, Nesterovic will go from playing alongside Timberwolves star Kevin Garnett to playing with reigning Most Valuable Player Tim Duncan.

After winning their second NBA title in five seasons, the Spurs were in the enviable position of having more than $15 million in salary cap space with high-priced players such as Robinson and guard Steve Smith coming off the payroll.
