Price sues Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., July 15 (UPI) -- Mike Price has filed a $20 million lawsuit against the University of Alabama because of his termination as the school's football coach.

Price, 57, never coached a down with the Crimson Tide and never signed a contract. He was hired to succeed Dennis Franchione, who took a similar post at Texas A&M.

Price failed twice in efforts to get a mediation staff to put together a panel to hear his appeal request. He claims he was wrongfully terminated and denied due process. He is seeking $10 million each in punitive and compensatory damages.

Mike Shula was hired on May 9.

Price was unable to defuse the controversy surrounding his off-the-field behavior, which included a visit to a topless bar and unusual charges to a hotel bill.

He came under intense scrutiny from alumni and university officials after his reported actions in Pensacola, Fla., on April 16 while in town for a pro-am charity golf tournament.
