Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

NEW YORK, July 11 (UPI) -- Flordia Marlins rookie lefthander Dontrelle Willis was named to the National League All-Star team Friday as an injury replacement.
He will be subbing for Los Angeles Dodgers righthander Kevin Brown.
The appointment ends the debate over the snub by Chicago Cubs Manager Dusty Baker, who left Willis off the team in favor of Cubs righthander Kerry Wood.
A 21-year-old who started the season in the minor leagues, Willis has burst onto the scene with the Marlins and is 8-1 with a 1.98 ERA in 12 starts. With his unorthodox style, Willis has drawn comparisons to Vida Blue and Fernando Valenzuela.
Willis is unbeaten in his last nine starts, going 7-0 with an 0.85 ERA. He pitched a one-hitter against the New York Mets.
