Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

MILWAUKEE, July 10 (UPI) -- Jeff Suppan tossed a nine-hitter for his 14th career complete game Thursday as Pittsburgh held on for a 5-4 victory over Milwaukee.
Suppan (8-7) gave up three solo home runs, including two to Keith Ginter, but walked none and matched a career high with nine strikeouts.
He threw 133 pitches in tossing his second complete game in three starts. Suppan also went the distance against Colorado on June 29.
Aramis Ramirez belted a three-run home run off rookier starter Matt Ford in the fifth to give the Pirates a 4-2 lead.
Jeff Reboulet scored on Royce Clayton's error to make it 5-2 before Suppan survived late homers to Ginter in the eighth and Richie Sexson in the ninth.
