CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 10 (UPI) -- Andrea Stinson scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half Thursday night to spark Charlotte to a 65-58 victory over Detroit.
Nine of Stinson's points came during a 26-6 run to close the first half. Charlotte took a 34-23 lead into the locker room and did not trail again.
The Shock closed within 45-42 with 7:08 left on a layup by Cheryl Ford, who set a career high with 20 points, but the Sting responded quickly. Charlotte Smith-Taylor made a layup at the other end 12 seconds later to fuel a decisive 9-1 run.
Smith-Taylor, who did not play in the first half, had all five of her points in just eight minutes. Tammy Sutton-Brown led the Sting with 17 points.
