Los Angeles 97, Washington 91

WASHINGTON, July 9 (UPI) -- Tamecka Dixon scored a career-high 28 points Wednesday night as Los Angeles reached the midway point of the season with a 97-91 win over Washington.

The Mystics tied a team record with their 11th straight loss.

Dixon made 11 of 14 shots for the Sparks, who improved the WNBA's best record to 15-3. Before Wednesday night, her previous career high had been 26 points against Detroit on July 25, 1998.

With Dixon scoring 17 points, the Sparks had a 44-40 lead at halftime and led 56-52 with just over 14 minutes to play after Washington's Chamique Holdsclaw scored six straight points. But Lisa Leslie and Delisha Milton scored four points apiece during a 12-2 spurt that extended Los Angeles' lead to 68-54 with 10:32 remaining.

Leslie added 18 points and Milton 16 for the Sparks.
