EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., July 2 (UPI) -- Landon Donovan and Clint Mathis exchanged goals during second half added time Wednesday night, leaving San Jose and MetroStars tied at 4-4.

The MetroStars took the lead three times, only to have San Jose tie the wide open match.

San Jose, unbeaten in five matches, stayed atop the Western Conference with the best record in MLS. The MetroStars missed out on the opportunity to overtake the Chicago Fire atop the Eastern Conference.

The lead changed hands three times in the first half with the MetroStars leading at the break, 3-2.
