NY Mets 3, Montreal 1

NEW YORK, June 30 (UPI) -- Steve Trachsel (7-5) allowed five hits in seven innings Monday as the New York Mets snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 triumph over the Montreal Expos.

After surrendering Montreal's lone run in the second, he retired 17 of the next 21 batters. The righthander has won three of his last four starts and has not allowed more than three runs in any of those appearances.

Ty Wigginton had a two-run double in the third inning to put New York ahead 2-1. Cliff Floyd and Jeromy Burnitz each had two hits, a double and scored a run for the Mets.

Expos starter Javier Vazquez (6-6) walked three straight batters in the first inning. He settled down thereafter, allowing three runs and seven hits in six innings.

Wil Cordero went 3-for-4 with a run scored for Montreal, which

has lost three of its last four.
