Despite injuries to key players like Chris Webber, Mike Bibby, and Bobby Jackson, Adelman guided the Kings to a 59-23 record and a second straight Pacific Division title. They were beaten by Dallas in seven games in the Western Conference semifinals.

"Rick's done an absolutely terrific job with our team over the past five seasons and we want to reward him for that," said Sacramento owner Joe Maloof. "We really appreciate his loyalty and dedication to this franchise."

Adelman, who turned 57 on June 16, ranks seventh among active coaches with 603 wins. On April 4, he became the 18th coach in NBA history to record 600 victories.

Under Adelman, Sacramento posted the NBA's best record in 2001-02, going 61-21 before losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in overtime in seven games.

At 245-131, Adelman has the highest winning percentage in the Kings' 55-year history. He also has coached Portland and Golden State.
