DENVER, June 26 (UPI) -- The Colorado Avalanche have re-signed star center Peter Forsberg to a one-year contract reportedly worth $11 million.
The signing came 29 days after three-time Vezina and Conn Smythe Trophy-winning goaltender Patrick Roy announced his retirement.
Forsberg, who became the franchise's first Art Ross Trophy winner in 2002-03 with 106 points, finished the season tied with teammate Milan Hejduk for the league's best plus-minus rating at plus-52.
"I'm excited to be staying in Colorado and looking forward to the 2003-04 season," Forsberg said. "I'm truly enjoying myself in Denver. The team has had tremendous success since 1995, and I'm expecting a very exciting and successful season."
The seven-time All-Star, was acquired from Philadelphia in the infamous Eric Lindros trade in 1992, has won two Stanley Cups with the Avalanche after capturing the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie in 1995.
In 541 games, Forsberg, 29, has 198 goals and 488 assists. He has added 53 goals and 90 assists in 122 playoff contests.
