Terms were not disclosed for Godfrey, who was released last week in a salary cap move by the Tennessee Titans.

Seattle has been in the market for a middle linebacker after ranking last in the NFL in rushing defense last season.

Godfrey said he is really excited to be with Seattle.

"I think I can be one of the missing pieces," Godfrey said. "I can come in and help this team win and that's what I want to do. I just want to get off to a great start this year and finish strong. This is my chance to rebound."

Godfrey, 30, led the Titans in tackles in 2001 and 2001, his first two years with the team, but missed eight games because of an ankle injury last season. The seven-year veteran played his first four seasons with Dallas and the Cowboys in tackles in 1999.
