SAN DIEGO, June 22 (UPI) -- Seattle defeated the San Diego Padres 4-2 Saturday behind the steady pitching of Joel Pineiro.

Pineiro (7-5) gave up five hits and two runs over seven innings. It was the 10th straight game in which a Seattles starter lasted at least seven innings.

The 24-year-old Mariners pitcher retired the last 12 batters he faced and then got relief help from Arthur Rhodes and Shigetoshi Hasegawa, who recorded his first save.

The loser was Adam Eaton (2-6, who gave up all four runs in the first two innings, two of them on bases-loaded walks.
