HARRISON, N.Y., June 21 (UPI) -- Briny Baird played six holes Saturday before rain arrived and holds a two-shot lead as the third round of the Buick Classic was postponed.

Ranked 91st in the world and looking for his first career win, Baird doubled his lead as he moved to 11-under-par. Skip Kendall i in second place.

The golfers went out in threesomes from the first and 10th holes in hopes of beating the weather. But after a second delay that began shortly after 1 p.m. EDT, tournament officials decided to halt play for the day at 3 p.m.

This is the fourth straight year the event has been suspended by weather.

Play will resume Sunday at 9 a.m., with officials hoping to begin the final round 2 1/2 hours later. Rain is expected to stop early Sunday, with gradual clearing the rest of the day.
