Scores high at Gleneagles

PERTHSHIRE, Scotland, June 19 (UPI) -- Scotland's Alastair Forsyth made the best of gusting winds Thursday to take a share of the lead after the first round of the Diageo Championship.

The average score at the PGA Centenary Course was 76.6, but Forsyth, fellow Scot Marc Warren and Australia's Brad Kennedy each managed to shoot 2-under-par 70.

They were one shot ahead of Spain's Ivo Giner, England's Iain Pyman and Argentina's Gustavo Rojas. No one else from the field of 156 could break par.

The best outing for Forsyth this season has been a tie for third at the Dubai Desert Classic.

Among those who would like to forget their performance on Thursday was England's Ian Poulter. Twelve days after a course record-tying 63 in the British Masters, Poulter had an 83 at Gleneagles.
