Fish won his first grasscourt match of the year with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory over Korea's Hyung-Taik Lee.

Wild card Arvind Parmar continued the strong first-day showing by Englishmen, defeating Paul-Henri Mathieu of France, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Australian Wayne Arthurs - last year's runner-up - outlasted American Bob Bryan, 7-6 (17-15), 7-5. The 19-17 tiebreaker is the longest in more than four years.
