EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., June 16 (UPI) -- Star guard Jason Kidd of New Jersey may not be back with the Nets next season.

Kidd becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1, and there has been constant speculation that he will join San Antonio, which ironically beat the Nets Sunday night to win the NBA championship.

"J-Kidd is a basketball player, but he's a businessperson also," said New Jersey Coach Byron Scott. "Hopefully, when he comes to his conclusion, it will be New Jersey."

Kidd sounded like he was uncertain.

"I've got to find a team or stay with the Nets that has a better chance of winning the championship trophy," said Kidd. "That's what I play this game for. I'd love to be a Net, but I have to look at my options."

Kidd was New Jersey's most consistent player in the six-game loss to the Spurs, when he averaged 19.7 points, 7.8 assists, and 6.2 rebounds per game.
