MINNEAPOLIS, June 15 (UPI) -- Alex Cintron singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning Sunday as the Arizona Diamondbacks outslugged the Minnesota Twins, 12-8.
With the game tied, 7-7, Rod Barajas opened the eighth with a single off reliever LaTroy Hawkins (4-2). Quinton McCracken dropped a bunt that catcher A.J. Pierzynski fielded but one-hopped to second. The ball bounced out of shortstop Cristian Guzman's glove, allowing both runners to reach safely.
After a bunt single by Tony Womack loaded the bases, Cintron
singled to center field to drive in Barajas and give Arizona the lead.
Luis Gonzalez made it 9-7 with a sacrifice fly and Carlos Baerga followed with a single that skipped under the glove of left fielder Jacque Jones, who had misjudged the ball and was trying to knock it down off a bounce. Womack and Cintron scored on the play to extend the Diamondbacks' lead to 11-7.
