Vols dismiss Wilborn

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., June 12 (UPI) -- Elgrace Wilborn, a rising junior, has been kicked off the men's basketball team at Tennessee.

The 6-8 forward was dismissed, according to Coach Buzz Peterson, for "a lack of discipline and accountability."

In a news release, the school said Wilborn was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault on June 1 for allegedly breaking the jaw of teammate Brandon Crump, a Knoxville Police Department spokesman said recently.

The police report said Wilborn struck Crump at the off-campus apartment shared by the two players during an early morning argument involving female visitors.

"First, I am very disappointed in one of our young men and the choice he made," Peterson said. "Second, rest assured we are going to have discipline and accountability in our program and I am going to do the right thing for our program and the University it represents."

Wilborn started one game last season, and averaged 2.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest as a sophomore.
