GREENSBORO, N.C., June 12 (UPI) -- No vote was taken late Wednesday on a proposal to expand the Atlantic Coast Conference.
That after a telephone conference call involving the league's Council of Presidents.
ACC Commissioner John Swofford said the process was constructive.
"Just as before, it will be up to the Council to decide the direction and timing of the process," Swofford said. "The next call of the Council of Presidents will take place no sooner than early next week."
The ACC wants to add three schools from the Big East Conference – Miami, Syracuse and Boston College. To do so, seven votes are needed, but reports indicate Duke, Virginia and North Carolina are balking.
Also, the Charlotte Observer reported Thursday that Florida State, a perennial football powerhouse, wanted the ACC to add Miami or risk losing FSU to another conference.
The ACC has been sued by the five Big East schools not included in the expansion plan -- Pittsburgh, Connecticut, West Virginia, Virginia Tech and Rutgers.
