NEW YORK, June 10 (UPI) -- Becky Hammon scored 28 points Tuesday as the New York Liberty avenged a season-opening loss with a 73-65 win over the Cleveland Rockers.

Hammon's point total was three less than the entire starting five for New York, but it was enough to help the Liberty erase a 46-38 deficit with 11:44 remaining.

New York went on a 22-6 run that included 13 points by Hammon. She had three 3-pointers during the spurt, including one with 6:40 left that gave New York the lead for good, 54-52.

Tari Phillips had 11 points and was the only other player to score in double figures for the Liberty, who suffered a 74-50 loss at Cleveland on May 31.

Chasity Melvin had 16 points and Helen Darling added 10 for the Shockers, which had a three-game winning streak snapped.
