Cardinals activate Isringhausen, Girardi

BOSTON, June 10 (UPI) -- The St. Louis Cardinals activated closer Jason Isringhausen from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

After undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in October, Isringhausen missed the first 61 games of the season. The righthander, who recorded 32 saves in his first season with the Cardinals in 2002, worked two scoreless innings with three strikeouts during a rehabilitation stint with Class AA Tennessee of the Southern League.

Signed by St. Louis as a free agent in December 2001, Isringhausen owns a 31-31 record with 108 saves and a 3.94 ERA

in 271 career games. After starting 52 games over parts of four seasons with the New York Mets, the righthander was converted to a closer when acquired by Oakland in a July 1999 trade and has blown just 13 of 120 save chances.

With Isringhausen unavailable, the Cardinals' bullpen converted just 15-of-29 save opportunities.
