Giants 2b Durham on disabled list

ATLANTA, May 11 (UPI) -- San Francisco Giants second baseman Ray Durham, who suffered a sprained ankle in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday.

Durham was injured in the fifth inning while sliding into third base after a deep drive to right field. The 31-year-old is in his first season with the Giants and is hitting .309 with three homers and five RBI.

San Francisco replaced Durham on the roster by calling up infielder Cody Ransom from Fresno of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League.

Neifi Perez was in the starting lineup at second base in Sunday's game with the Braves.

The Giants own the best record in the National League (25-10), but learned they must do without a key player for the second time in a week. Closer Robb Nen underwent season-ending surgery on his rotator cuff on Wednesday.
