LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 10 (UPI) -- Champali, the runner-up two weeks ago to Midas Eyes at the Derby Trial, will run in the Preakness Stakes, trainer Greg Foley announced Saturday.
Champali became the eighth likely starter for next Saturday's race, the second jewel of the Triple Crown. Those entered include Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide, Scrimshaw, Indian Express, Senor Swinger and either Peace Rules or Midas Eyes.
Owned by Rob Lloyd, Champali finished second two weeks ago at Churchill Downs, despite being bumped at the start. The son of Glitterman has won six of his nine lifetime starts.
"He is a nice horse and the distance is a question, but his style fits Pimlico perfectly with the tight turns because he is a real athletic horse," said Foley, whose horse is still at Churchill Downs.
"He has been beaten three times and with a break here or there, we could have won two of them, but we got outrun by Midas Eyes.
"But (Midas Eyes) might be the best horse that (trainer Bobby) Frankel's got."
Foley said Champali would be arriving at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore on Wednesday.
Frankel pulled Kentucky Derby prerace favorite and runner-up Empire Maker out of the race earlier this week.
