Mo Williams declares for NBA draft

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., May 8 (UPI) -- Sophomore guard Mo Williams, who has started every game for two seasons at the University of Alabama, Thursday declared for the NBA draft.

Williams filed his early entry as an underclassman but has not hired an agent, making it possible for him to return to the team in the fall.

"I want to leave my options open," Williams said. "Hopefully, I will get invited to the NBA predraft camp in Chicago so I can get further evaluated.

"I'll base my final decision on those evaluations and workouts before the draft. If things are not going as planned, I will withdraw my name and return to school."

After being named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year, Williams averaged 16.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game this past season. In his first year, he averaged 10.4 points, 4.5 assists and 3.9 rebounds a game.

The early-entry deadline to declare for the draft is May 12. The predraft camp, which is by invitation only, is scheduled for June 3-6 at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. June 19 is the deadline for early-entry withdrawal for the June 26 draft.
