Tracy remains on pole for Champ car

KENT, England, May 4 (UPI) -- Canadian Paul Tracy remained on the pole position for the London Champion Car Trophy but France's Sebastien Bourdais took the second spot on Sunday.

Tracy guaranteed himself a front row starting position on Saturday with a time of 37.006 seconds (115.960 miles per hour) for a circuit record. That mark held up on Sunday.

"It's great to be on pole," Tracy said. "I know it's possible to win from anywhere, but the track here is tight, and starting from the pole gives you confidence."

This will be Tracy's first pole since Michigan in 2000, and his first road course pole since Laguna Seca in 1994. His 14th career pole tied him with Bobby Unser and Juan Montoya for eighth on the all-time CART list.

Tracy has dominated the series during the early going this season, winning all three races.

Bourdais was one of the few front-runners to improve on the warm, sunny day. The rookie produced the best time of the day in 37.044 seconds (115.841 mph) with his third lap. He went through the gravel at Paddock Hill Bend on what would have been the fastest lap.

"That lap would have been fastest for sure," Bourdais said. "All three of my laps were under 38s. I was much quicker into Paddock and had to upshift earlier, I was on the limiter. I just couldn't hold onto the steering with just one hand, hit the curb and ran wide.

"But look on the good side, Paul has started every race from second place, and he has won them all. Maybe this time it's me."

Bruno Junqueira will start Monday's 165-lap race from the third spot based on his time from Saturday of 37.022 seconds (115.909 mph). It marks the third time in the season's four races that the Brazilian will start third on the grid.

Spanish rookie Oriol Servia took the fourth spot, ahead of Canadian Alex Tagliani, Mexicans Adrian Fernandez and Mario Dominguez and Britain's Darren Manning.
