Nicklaus finishes in the pack

TRAVELERS REST, S.C., May 4 (UPI) -- Tripp Isenhour won the BMW Charity Pro-Am Sunday and then said he would having something to brag about for years to come.

"Now I can say I beat Jack Nicklaus," Isenhour said. "It is something I can tell my grandkids about."

The Nationwide Tour event drew mainstream media attention this week with a field that included Nicklaus and sons Michael, Gary, Jackie and Steve.

Michael, Gary and Jackie failed to make the cut after the second round, but Steve -- playing as an amateur -- won the pro celebrity division with his father, the winner of a record 18 majors among 73 PGA Tour triumphs.

"Steve and I have played together probably 20 times and this is the first time we have ever won something," said the elder Nicklaus.

Jack Nicklaus carded a final-round 70 and tied for 45th at 4-under 283.

"Today, I had a good opportunity starting out for the last round, but I messed up on the 16th and 18th holes," he said. "It was a better round but not competitive enough."

Starting his final round on the back nine, Nicklaus had birdies on three of the first five holes before a double-bogey at 16 and bogey at 18. But it would have taken a record round to catch Isenhour, who earned his second career victory on the Nationwide Tour.

Nicklaus had never played on the Nationwide Tour, but took advantage of the unique opportunity to play in the same with all four of his sons.
