Colorado 6, Chicago 4

CHICAGO, May 3 (UPI) -- After lefthander Mark Guthrie walked Todd Helton, the right-handed hitting Preston Wilson hit a tie-breaking, two-run homer in a three-run eighth inning rally Saturday as the Colorado Rockies downed the Chicago Cubs, 6-4.

The Rockies received some help from a fan at Wrigley Field in the three-run eighth. Pinch-hitter Mark Sweeney led off the inning with a foul ball to the left field corner.

Moises Alou attempted to make a sliding catch, but a fan reached over the wall and deflected the ball away. Alou pointed to the fan, but interference was not called.

Reliever Kyle Farnsworth then walked Sweeney. After a sacrifice by Ron Belliard, pinch-runner Gabe Kapler raced to third on a wild pitch by Farnsworth. Jay Payton followed with a single, tying the game at 4-4.

Cubs Manager Dusty Baker called for Guthrie (0-2) to pitch to the lefthanded-hitting Helton. Guthrie quickly erased Payton, who was caught stealing after the lefthander caught him breaking off first base. However, Guthrie walked Helton and Baker decided to stay with the lefthander with Wilson at the plate.

It turned out to be the wrong move as Wilson lofted a first-pitch fastball over the right field wall for his sixth home run of the season.

Justin Speier (2-0) pitched two hitless innings to earn the win.

Jose Jimenez worked a perfect ninth for his seventh save in eight chances, three of them coming against the Cubs.
