Kansas City 5, Baltimore 2

BALTIMORE, May 2 (UPI) -- Miguel Asencio pitched his first career complete game and Kansas City got home runs from Mike Sweeney and rookie Ken Harvey Friday night to defeat the Baltimore Orioles, 5-2.

Asencio (2-0) allowed two runs and seven hits while walking three. He tied a career high with six strikeouts and did not allow a hit after the sixth inning.

Asencio's longest outing this season had been six innings. He pitched seven innings twice last season after being selected from the Philadelphia Phillies in the Rule 5 Draft.

Baltimore starter Rick Helling (1-3) cruised through the first five innings, holding Kansas City scoreless on four hits, but fell victim to the long ball in the sixth.

Sweeney blasted a two-run shot to left field after Carlos Beltran drew a leadoff walk. Then, with one out, Harvey gave the Royals a 3-2 lead with a long shot to center.

Helling left three batters later with two on and two outs. Rick Bauer came in and gave up an RBI single to Desi Relaford, but got out of the inning when Carlos Febles was thrown out at the plate.

The Orioles had their four-game winning streak snapped.
