Chi. Cubs 4; San Francisco 2

SAN FRANCISCO, April 30 (UPI) -- Moises Alou homered and drove in two runs Tuesday night, and Kerry Wood pitched six strong innings as the Chicago Cubs beat San Francisco, 4-2.

It was the return to the Bay Area of Chicago Manager Dusty Baker, who spent 10 years at the helm of the Giants, guiding the team to the National League pennant last season, before signing with the Cubs in the offseason.

Baker received a standing ovation from the crowd when he brought out the lineup card prior to the game. He tipped his cap as a video tribute to him played on the scoreboard.

His night improved considerably after the performance of Wood (4-1), who allowed two runs, one earned, and seven hits while striking out eight.

"Every time I turned around I had a couple of guys on base, so I was pitching out of jams all night long," Wood said. "I didn't throw as consistently as I wanted to, but when situations came up where I needed to get a big out or a strikeout I was able to do that. I just tried to keep it close."

"It was good, kind of embarrassing a little bit," he said. "I don't respond well to that too much, but it was good. It was good to come home here, and it was nice to win. It feels special. My first game here back here at Pac Bell. It's a place I'm very familiar with."

Alou, who is the son of Giants Manager Felipe Alou, had an RBI single in the fifth inning, and homered off reliever Felix Rodriguez in the eighth. He also bounced into a double play to force home a run in the third.

"Anytime you do something to help your team win, whether you're playing against your dad or anybody else, you feel pretty good about it," Alou said. "It's not like I haven't played against my Dad before. It's fun because not everybody has a chance to come play against his dad in the major leagues, and I'm pretty lucky to be able to do that."

Juan Cruz and Mike Remlinger combined to pitch two scoreless innings for the Cubs before Joe Borowski pitched a hitless ninth for his fourth save.

Giants starter Kirk Rueter (2-1) allowed three runs and eight hits in six innings. He struck out three and walked three.
