ANAHEIM, Calif., April 26 (UPI) -- Casey Fossum gave up five hits in seven scoreless innings and Shea Hillenbrand homered and drove in three runs Friday night to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 5-2 victory over the slumping Anaheim Angels.
Fossum (2-1) walked one and struck out five to win for the first time in five career appearances against Anaheim.
Hillenbrand delivered an RBI single and scored a run in the fourth to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead. Two innings later, the designated hitter slugged a two-run shot off starter Jarrod Washburn (1-3), increasing Boston's advantage to five.
After giving up a walk and a hit to start the ninth, Boston closer Chad Fox got Scott Spiezio to fly out to center and induced Bengie Molina to ground into a game-ending double play for his third save.
Anaheim's Tim Salmon was two for four with an RBI, extending his hitting streak to 14 games. But he could not prevent the Angels from losing for the eighth time in 11 contests.
Anaheim third baseman Troy Glaus left in the fourth inning with an infection in his left foot.
