Rangers put Valdes on DL

ARLINGTON, Texas, April 24 (UPI) -- The Texas Rangers Thursday added righthander Ismael Valdes to an already crowded disabled list with tendinitis in the back of his pitching shoulder.

The Rangers' Opening Night starter, Valdes has not pitched since Saturday, when he experienced discomfort in the shoulder during a 12-2 loss at Oakland. He was reached for six runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings, raising his ERA to 5.74 ERA.

Valdes, who is 2-2 in five starts, underwent an MRI on Thursday that revealed tendinitis.

Texas is expected to make another roster move before Friday's series opener with the New York Yankees. Valdes was slated to pitch Saturday against lefthander David Wells.
