Chicago 6, St. Louis 4

ST. LOUIS, April 3 (UPI) -- Defenseman Nathan Dempsey and Chris Simon each scored twice and Michael Leighton recorded his first NHL win Thursday night as the Chicago Blackhawks opened a home-and-home series against the St. Louis Blues with a 6-4 victory.

Acquired from the New York Islanders at the trade deadline, Osgood is the seventh goaltender to play for St. Louis this season. He posted a shutout in his Blues' debut and won his first three starts but has allowed 16 goals during an 0-2-1 stretch.

After missing four games with a strained groin, Dempsey opened the scoring 2:24 into the game with his fourth goal of the season before giving the Blackhawks a 4-1 lead midway through the second.

With just 10 goals in 68 games, Simon followed Dempsey's first of the night with consecutive tallies for his first two-goal effort as a Blackhawk and the 10th of his career.

Settling for a scoreless tie in his NHL debut, Leighton turned aside 41 shots for his first win in five decisions.

Pavol Demitra scored twice and Keith Tkachuk added a power-play tally for the Blues, who remained three points behind fourth-place Colorado for home-ice advantage in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
