Phillies manager suspended one game

MIAMI, April 2 (UPI) -- Philadelphia Phillies manager Larry Bowa was suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount by the commissioner's office Wednesday for his role in a spring training incident.

Major League Baseball vice president Bob Watson announced the suspension prior to the Phillies' game at Florida. Bowa will sit out Thursday's game against the Marlins.

The suspension stems from an incident in a March 26 game in which Toronto Blue Jays righthander Roy Halladay hit Jim Thome with a pitch in the third inning.

An inning later, Bowa yelled at Halladay, inciting both benches to empty. Bowa was ejected from the game and had to be restrained by his players.
