RALEIGH, N.C., March 31 (UPI) -- Mathieu Garon recorded his fourth career shutout and Saku Koivu scored his 20th goal of the season as the Montreal Canadiens snapped a three-game streak Monday night with a 3-0 blanking of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Garon made 14 of his 33 saves in the third period, helping kill a pair of power plays en route to his second shutout of the season. He also whitewashed Washington on Feb. 9.

Koivu's tally sparked a three-goal first period. Defenseman Francis Bouillon and Richard Zednik scored in the closing 4:04 of the period to help the Canadiens clinch the season series with the Hurricanes, 2-1-1.

Zednik helped set up Bouillon's effort and Jan Bulis chipped in two assists.

Kevin Weekes yielded three first-period goals on just 11 shots as Carolina lost its third straight.
