VALLEY RANCH, Texas, March 24 (UPI) -- Dallas Stars center Pierre Turgeon underwent successful surgery Monday morning on his ankle.

He is expected to be sidelined four weeks.

Turgeon suffered the injury on March 8, when he was hit by a puck in practice. Stars team physician Dr. Dan Cooper performed the surgery at Baylor Medical Center.

Turgeon, 33, is one of the top playmakers in the league, and has 12 goals and 30 assists in 65 games for Dallas (41-17-15-3), which already has clinched the Pacific Division title, and is tied with Detroit for the top spot in the Western Conference.

Turgeon has 480 goals and 754 assists in 1,139 career games.

Stars right wing Bill Guerin also is expected to be out four more weeks. Guerin, who has 25 goals and 25 assists in 64 games, had emergency thigh surgery on March 1 after a collision with Ottawa's Chris Phillips caused a severe internal bleeding.
