Memphis 124, Chicago 95

MEMPHIS, March 12 (UPI) -- Pao Gasol scored 27 points and Stromile Swift added 22 Wednesday night as the Memphis Grizzlies set franchise marks for points in a quarter and shooting percentage en route to a 124-95 victory over the Chicago Bulls.

The Grizzlies scored 41 points in the first quarter and shot 61 percent from the field overall, breaking the previous record of 60 percent set in a 122-111 win over Indiana on March 7, 2002. Their previous mark for points in a quarter was 40 at Washington on Jan. 16, 1998.

Memphis matched a franchise mark with its 23rd victory of the season and tied another record by stretching its winning streak to five games.

Last season, the Grizzlies won their 23rd game in their 82nd contest. This season, they reached the mark in their 64th outing.

After Tuesday's 116-99 home win over the Los Angeles Lakers, the Bulls' defense stayed home against the Grizzlies.

Memphis opened a 41-29 lead after one quarter and stretched its advantage to 74-60 at intermission. It fell just short of the century mark in the third quarter, taking a 98-80 advantage into the final period.

Eddy Curry scored 21 points for the Bulls, who dropped to 3-30 on the road.
