Edmonton 5; Calgary 2

CALGARY, Alberta, March 12 (UPI) -- Shawn Horcoff scored a goal and set up another, and Brad Isbister recorded his first point as an Oiler Tuesday night as Edmonton pummeled Calgary, 5-2.

The Oilers erupted for three goals in the third period. With the victory, they moved seven points ahead of Nashville to tighten their grip on the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Horcoff helped break a 2-2 tie 8:02 into the third, feeding Georges Laraque for the eventual game-winner. The third-year center doubled the Oilers' lead less than 8 1/2 minutes later as Edmonton knotted its five-game season series with Calgary at two wins apiece.

The newly-acquired Isbister, a native of Edmonton, assisted on an empty-netter by Mike Comrie with seven seconds remaining, and just hours after he was acquired from the New York Islanders as part of a trade for defenseman Janne Niinimaa.

Anson Carter, the Oilers' leading scorer, also was dealt, landing with the New York Rangers in a four-player deal at Tuesday's NHL trade deadline.

Rookie Ales Hemsky replaced Carter on the team's top line, and set up goals by Ryan Smyth and Todd Marchant as Edmonton rallied twice to knot the contest at the second intermission.
