Philadelphia 3, Cincinnati 2

CLEARWATER, Fla., March 9 (UPI) -- Starter Brandon Duckworth left after one inning with an elbow injury Sunday before the Philadelphia Phillies rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Duckworth struck out two, walked one and allowed one hit in the first inning, but left after warming up for the second with inflammation in his right elbow. The Phillies' righthander underwent treatment and will be re-evaluated Monday.

Duckworth was replaced by former Reds reliever Hector Mercado, who gave up two runs on solo homers by Felipe Lopez and Wilton Guerrero over four innings.

But Pat Burrell hit a run-scoring double in the bottom of the sixth inning and smacked a game-tying solo shot in the ninth.

The next batter, Chase Utley, reached on an error by first baseman Dernell Stenson and scored the winning run one out later on Marlon Byrd's double down the left field line.

Turk Wendell, taking the mound for the first time in more than a year, combined with Amaury Telemaco, Terry Adams and Jose Mesa to pitch four scoreless innings. Mesa earned the win after striking out the side in the top of the ninth.
