NY Mets 7, Detroit 0

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla., March 6 (UPI) -- Tom Glavine bounced back from a rough outing with three solid innings and Jorge Velandia and Joe McEwing homered Thursday to power the New York Mets to a 7-0 rout of the Detroit Tigers.

Glavine, the Mets' key offseason acquisition, surrendered four runs in two innings Saturday in his spring debut. But he held the Tigers to two hits while striking out two.

Jeremy Griffiths and Mike Stanton each tossed two innings and Phil Seibel and Heath Bell finished up with an inning apiece.

Velandia and McEwing slugged two-run homers off Steve Sparks in the third inning and New York tacked on three in the fourth against the knuckleballer.

Ramon Santiago went two for two for Detroit, which collected seven hits.
