Tommie Harris' wife dies

PHOENIX, March 3 (UPI) -- David McCarty homered and starter Barry Zito allowed one run over four innings Monday as the Oakland Athletics edged the Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-5, in Cactus League play.
Zito yielded three hits and struck out two opposite Diamondbacks' starter Randy Johnson, who gave up three hits and struck out three in three scoreless innings.
Adam Piatt and Ramon Hernandez each collected two hits and an RBI for the Athletics.
Micah Bowie allowed a hit in an inning of relief to post the win.
John Patterson took the loss for the Diamondbacks, whose comeback bid fell just short with four runs in the ninth.
