PEORIA, Ariz., March 2 (UPI) -- Bret Boone hit a two-run homer as part of a five-run fourth inning Sunday to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 13-2 win over the San Diego Padres.

The Mariners had a 3-1 lead going into their big inning. Boone's homer followed an RBI triple by Ichiro Suzuki and gave Seattle a 6-1 edge. Pat Borders added a homer in the sixth for the Mariners, who scored in six different innings.

Borders also had a double and was the only Mariner with more than one hit in the rout. Padres catcher Gary Bennett was the only player for his team with a multi-hit game.

Freddy Garcia got a base hit in his only at bat and had a successful outing on the mound, allowing a run and four hits in two innings to pick up the win. Seattle closer Kazuhiro Sasaki struggled with his control as he walked three in a scoreless inning.

Jake Peavy, who went 6-7 with a 4.52 ERA last season as a rookie for San Diego, took the loss, allowing three runs and four hits in two innings.
