GREEN BAY, Wis., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- The Green Bay Packers added experience to their secondary Friday, acquiring cornerback Al Harris and a fourth-round pick from the Philadelphia Eagles for a second-round pick.
One of the NFL's best nickel backs, Harris became expendable in Philadelphia after the Eagles used their first three draft picks on defensive backs last season. Philadelphia also has a pair of Pro Bowl cornerbacks in Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor.
"We thank Al for the nice job that he did over the last five years in Philadelphia," Eagles Coach Andy Reid said. "We'll always be grateful to him for his efforts and we know he'll do a good job in Green Bay."
In Green Bay, Harris also likely will play in nickel situations with Mike McKenzie and Tyrone Williams entrenched as the starting cornerbacks.
After being claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay in 1998, Harris, 28, played in 80 games, including 21 starts. The 6-1, 185-pounder has registered seven interceptions during his career.
